Valpolicella

The farm holidays Corteforte is a bed and breakfast accommodation within a 600-year old fortified farmhouse. The B&B lies on a prestigious wine estate between Verona and Lake Garda. There are 4 magnificent and luxurious double rooms inside an ancient mast, each with a private bathroom and hairdryer, and every room is furnished differently with antiques, TV, and a minibar. There is no air conditioning, but you won’t need it, the metre-thick walls keep the rooms cool and fresh.  With comfortable vacation accommodation, an excellent restaurant, and the chance to sample and buy fine Valpolicella, Amarone and Recioto wines, this promises a holiday of indulgence and luxury. 


Corteforte has also a little country house called "Olivella" fully modernised self-contained building which can comfortably sleep 4-6, is picturesquely set in olive grove surronded by vines, ovelooking the village of Fumane and its balcony features stunning views of the Lessini mountain range and the surrounding vineyards and countryside. Only 10 km (6,5 miles) from Verona and 25km (15,5 miles) from lake Garda, the Agriturismo Pule, rests in the middle of a vineyard in the Valpolicella Classica. An old, rural courtyard completely restructured respecting the original architecture. The small hotel has eight rooms, seven with a double bed and one with four beds, all with a complete bathroom, air conditioning, three rooms with kitchenette. At the restaurant it is possible to try the local wines and home made cuisine. At the guests disposal there is an outdoor barbeque, bicycles.
Other activities include: beautiful walks in the neighboring vineyards, visits to the wine cellars, possibility to buy the typical local foods, tennis and swimming pool available within 3 km ( 1,8 miles ).

Tenuta Pule, covers 130 hectares with vines, cherry trees and olive trees carrying through time the best Valpolicella wine traditions. The fields extend all around the antique villa Galtarossa, originally built in the sixteenth century.
It can be reached by going through a luxurious park and also by driving along a country road lined with centuries old cypresses.

Dante Alighieri lived several years of his exile in Verona. There is no definite documentation available to prove the precise duration of Dante's stay in the Veneto, however, one thing is certain, during his stay at Casal Dei Ronchi, in the heart of historic Valpolicella, he put the finishing touches to the "Paradise" contained in his "Divina Commedia". The pleasant surrounding of the countryside was so appealing that Pietro Alighieri, Dante's first son, was prompted to acquire the property in 1353. Casal dei Ronchi was to become the permanent seat for the descendants of Dante Alighieri. The house and grounds, after twenty generations, remain today the property of Count Pieralvise Serègo Alighieri, direct descendant of the poet.

With careful restoration, part of the historic property has been recently adapted to a Apartments with eight apartments, conference rooms and areas specifically for the tasting of food and wine.

The tasting room and kitchen adjoining the aging cellars are predisposed for the tasting of the wines of Serègo Alighieri, in conjunction with traditional specialities of Veronese cuisine. Cookery courses can also be organised for enthusiasts.

The villa was the summer Apartments of the noble veronese family Quaranta. The estate was constructed between 1639, the year of the great plague, and 1653. It passed from Agostino Quaranta to his son Gio Batta and at his death, to his daughter Antonia, the wife of Bernadino da Lisca. Thereafter it passed to the successive counts Butturini of Venice.

Rooms and suites are furnished so as to encourage guests to feel completely "at home". They experience nights of undisturbed ripose and cannot help but wake up energised.
